This work was a part of the exhibition project Sayizheng II which took place over the course of one day in the Rundeli market in Beijing in August 2013. My project was to develop a piece of public furniture for the market, using the resources available on site. I ended up making a chair together with a carpenter who sells furniture in the market. The design was based on a chair he had made before and it was adjusted to fit the idea of a chair that could be used by everyone. Originally the idea was to make several chairs made with the same seat but backrests made from different objects or tools acquired in the market, but because of the time it took to make the first chair I ended up with only one which has a backrest made from two brooms.
